logotype crit appreciated
sinthuxdesigns.com/cmykmade.gif This is a logotype I'm currently working on for a graphic design site I'm planning to open this year. The site is based on news, community, basically an online magazine+community. The site name isn't going to be "CMYKmade", I'm going to edit "made" to a more suitable word that relates to the website (plus carbonmade is kind of where I got the idea from). The CMYK typeface was strictly designed by me (I may scan my sketch again in illustrator and design it there for better quality once I get illustrator). I could use any suggestions toward color, better styles, and anything that'd improve the logo. *new logo ic3.deviantart.com/fs14/f/2007/069/0/4/CMYK_logo_by_sinthux.jpg Last edited by sinthux : 10-03-2007 at 13:30. |

I thought of this and I figured I'd try it out once I've established the whole design that I'd try out the whole cmyk color scheme for the logo. I also thought about sectioning the slant on the "Y" into 4 sections and color them into the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black |

I like the top two variations, with the lack of depth/blocky illustration to it, the letters strike me as too close and too fiddley. Would make the "sides" of the blocks deeper and darker to let the CMYK be more legible, but keep it in a block style, not have the letters without it. |

I see that you like the block style better on the first design. Do you like the font or colors better on the second design or do you prefer the first, and nothing from the second logotype? |

Just realised you might have thought i meant this link sinthuxdesigns.com/cmykmade.gif I didnt notice this before, I mean the first two from this set ic3.deviantart.com/fs14/f/2007/069/0/4/CMYK_logo_by_sinthux.jpg I don't mind it being all a single colour palate actually, but just feel the sides of the 3D style need deepening to increase contrast between the sides and the front of the letters to help legibility. |

The new one is better. Could do with a little more contrast IMO. Slightly concerned that you're trying too hard to look 'cool' but other than that it works for me. Stand Free

i'm not really feeling it either.Although I like the second batch best (the ones with the deviantart link). They looked kind of old school video gameish. Try to make the logo using the natural letter formations rather than altering their natural shapes. like, play around with negative space. also, look at other magazine logos for inspiration. (Swindle, Adbusters, CMYK, Lemon, etc) Good luck, and hope this helped. Ivan ps: my deviantart name is "shwizle" if you feel inclined to check my crdentials. |

it's reminding me of transformers for some reason. I don't know if that's the look you were going for, but if you're going to continue in this direction, i would use the last two of the second batch. It's way more legible without the overembossing. If you're going to continue to emboss it the way you have, I would throw in a contrasting color. Also, see how the logo will work on white and on black as a knockout. That will answer a lot of questions for you. Cheers. |
