riaktstudios.com new site review

We've just released our new web site and portfolio; we think the portfolio is rather refreshing.

Please review.

Thanks,

Since you're using Flash, I think you could use a much more elegant san serif than Arial for all of your menus/text. I also think "Please select a category" could be a bit smaller... since it's kind of obvious anyway

I'd also like to be able to see your work, but the hit area for your first link (say Online -> Web Design) is too small, so i can't even click it without the menu shrinking. >

Bold black text on white is also a little harsh for your design, I think. That's just me.

I like where it's heading though. Very minimalist. Very shiny.

The drop down in goodies is weird. If I try clicking on the sub links it hides or I guess, you've made it like that. Like the portfolio. Nice.

Oh. I see how this site works now. You really need to make that more clear. How about really small text that slides below the button saying... "click to view" or something?

I think it looks professional, just a little bit jaded. There's a different level of critism for a site of this quality (which it is)... a bad site just gets slated, this is by no means a bad site, it's a well designed site! Even though it's very good, it doesn't make me think "wow, that's so good... " I know it sounds harsh, but I think you're probably capable of creating that reaction. By the way, I would avoid just using flash, if you can!

I don't think the flash sits well at all. You have the nice beige space going on, then this odd flash rectangle in between, almost like classic and modern themes forced together. The only part of the flash that I like is the background colour transition really. It's purdy.

The navigation font doesn't really work for me, and the name "goodies" for your portfolio wouldn't be classed as "usable" because you have to read that sentence in the blue frame to get a clue that it contains your work (goodies suggests downloadables, such as wallpapers, to me).

The goodies frame itself has a nice enough presentation initially, but then it looks like it has a dropdown nav when hovering over a link (as mentioned above), but its really just letting the user know what kind of content is in each section. This, again, is a usability issue.

Lastly I'd say that that text at the top of the page could do with being a little bit bigger.

I know why his site is trash compared to his "work". Its because its not his!!(shock and awe)

Example: http://www.mymoes.com/new.html (linked on his portfolio)
Designed by: ThirdWeb Solutions

edit: I retract my statement in a way; some of the sites do link back to his portfolio while still others link to thirdweb (maybe he/she works for them). But I still dont know are you telling me you actually did that nike mobile presentation?; cant be....

Thanks for the quick edit. Its true, our company was named ThirdWeb Solutions but we have rebranded to Riakt Studios. We are hoping the new name and image will help support our new direction as a company to become a marketing consulting company. ThirdWeb may still continue to exist as a different kind of web company, but this hasn’t been decided.

Lastly we did do the Nike Mobile Presentation with 3Gupload.com (now mixxer.com) and together sat with 20 of the top executives of Nike to create the project.

Also thanks for taking the time to dig and look us up.

It looks to me like you haven't invested as much time and attention to detail on this site as you have your paid jobs. I'm guessing you know it's not right which is why you posted it here! Just finish it off to make it perfect like you would a paid job and it will all be sweet.
