Um...do you even know what you're talking about? How ridiculous that statement is?

Are you somehow opposed to creativity? That's the only conclusion I can come to since you're implying that revolution and evolution are impossible because everything is the same as everything else - formulaic and meaningless, which is obviously, patently false. If that were true, we'd still be doing cave paintings. If that were true, we'd still be a bunch of cave men.

Jaded schmaded. I am completely the opposite of jaded. Anyone who says that all of graphic design, books, film and music are exactly the same is the jaded one, my friend.

I'm amazed that one can make such blanket statements at 17 or 18. You know all of graphic design, books, film, and music? Staggering. I've been through art school, I've read dozens and dozens of books on these very subject and I'm still willing to admit that I don't know even 1% of what there is to know about even ONE of those subjects. The egos of children are mind boggling.

Exactly. Why. If you can't explain why, what's the point? Surely any graphic designer would agree that one should be able to justify their aesthetic choices?

It takes next to no effort to make something pretty. Especially when computers come into play - they make it easier for anyone.

I wasn't saying it's unattractive.

It's very attractive and aesthetically pleasing, but for me to appreciate something it needs purpose beyond decoration. Decoration is meaningless without purpose.

Peyop: Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to degrade your work. It's attractive and well composed. All I suggest is that you make something yours - something that means something to you. Push yourself and constantly ask yourself "why?". If it's meaningful to you and you can articulate that, then that's great!

I just disagree with all these people who seem to think that Pretty = Good.

Must be a bunch of Thomas Kincaid fans in here.

EDIT: Sorry. I've been drinking and reading Rothko. Sue me.

No problem. I join you perfectly concerning the fact that a creation must be justified. I am graphic designer of trade, and all the day I must justify the tracks which I propose with my customers. My project here, is to please to me and to carry out visual originals and intended for decoration. A kind of valve For this reason I do not seek to give a direction to my work, but to more let myself go to the free composition, which I specify on my first post

You're saying there are no books out there that read like a billion ripoffs of other shit you've already seen before? No music that sounds like a triple re-hash of something that was once popular, X amount of time ago? Movies?

Obviously I didn't generalize. I don't remember mentioning all of mankind's history, but closer to what we see now. When I meant "all" I meant there bits and pieces in all of it.

I'd say the main reason I commented was because I saw a web dev who creates little to no illustrative work grumble about a piece that I thought was very well done.

Your comment just sounded bitter (and I've been seeing a pattern of them) and I merely wanted to stand up for the thread starter. Perhaps my comment wasn't the most well thought-out, obviously possible.

EDIT: And yeah, you sorta get used to the "Well you're just a dumb kid, what do you know" comments after a while. All part of the process.
