Quick mockup

Just looking for some quick critique on this mockup. The target clients will be choosing from templates to use to run their own traditional online auctions. This is being presented as one of the templates. The logo is horrid, I know, but that's where it would go. The home button shows the hover state.

While I think it's solid graphically, every single aspect of it has a "Seen it too often" feel too it. Just a soul-less generic template following the conventions to the letter is all I see.

The layout itself seems alright, though can't really say I dig templates.

Keep up the work.

I don't dig templates either, but these templates are being designed with the content in mind. As for "following the conventions to the letter" you're definately right. I'm not really trying to break out of any boxes here. But if it's "solid," I can go with that. Thanks cat.

For a quick mock-up, it's not really a bad start.. the layout is not that bad..

What I don't like the most is the side navigation. Black doesn't seem to go along with green background.

Play around with the color schemes... It will helps to improve the look...

Good Luck!

change the left nav background to a different colour that the rollover top nav will be, seems that when you hover the first two links they are made less obvious which isnt the point to rollovers? might look nice in a black or grey or white

for a quick mock-up its good, but i think theres a 'clash' of colours, what with the lime green and it does seem to detract my attention away from what im supposed to be looking at...

also the contact sections should be nearer to the top of the page.. rather than the bottom where some viewers with a tiny monitor may have to scroll down to see it...

your finished version should be good tho

Green's a bit much eh? I just snagged a color them from colorschemer. I probably shouldn't have used the green in such a prevalant place. I'd like to create this in several color themes that clients can choose from. I'll try to keep that left column dulled down. Thanks for the crit.

Too much contrast. Hurts my eyes.

A lot of the graphic elements look too "bulky" to me.

Don't like the red/green combo.

exactly. it's generally very chunky design. it seems as if it was designed for a touch screen - the buttons are big enough to press with a finger...
although tis a bit sharp - i don't mind the colour scheme.

yeah... that green seems a bit bright/vibrant.
The overall layout looks pretty decent though.
The bottom nav doesn't quite seem to fit the rest of the layout... guessing you haven't gotten to it yet.

Good stuff. Thanks. About the big buttons, for some reason I always do that.

Looks pretty nice, but the diagonal lines in the left sections seem awfully busy.

Not bothered about the contrast, was going to say that the green is wrong, but I think it's just the lack of contrast on the menu within the green that puts me off.

I like it a lot JT. The only thing I'd re-think is the strong green. A bit hard on the eyeball if you know what I mean!

Quality stuff otherwise.

Too bad I wasn't designing for hard-of-seeing, touchscreen users...Then it would have worked out rather well. Thanks everyone.
