Sort of my first large work in illustrator...used a photo for proportion.

Haha. Ya, it was mostly to get used to the tools. But it ended up not really helping me since it's all a bunch of shapes and not much else. The only place I used gradient mesh was on the body kit, which kind of feels out of place since there aren't any other gradients on the entire care.

Man, you know you've been in an adobe program too long when you hold spacebar to move the forum.

Hood and bumper stripes need to be more shiny. They look flat as opposed to the side. The same goes for the rims.
Purple reflexion on the windshield looks out of place, try make it more blue.
Nice start, though, it will look great if you plan to finish it.

And where did you find the time to do this mate? How long did it take?

Hat's off to ya.

Well, fortunately I was able to pass it off as training in the program, so I did it on work time. Still new at the program so it took me about 15 hours. But, I really haven't done the hard parts yet, which would be all the reflections and whatnot. I'm not quite sure how to do all that. Still a bit intimidated by gradient meshes.

Erm... How do you mean? They look ok to me. You'd need a couple more highlights here and there, maybe?

Edit: Or create a grille (angled criss-crossing gradient filled rectangles), then mask the shape you want. Something like that. (sloppy 5 mins job, but you get the point)

im not sure if this is not too much (and too precise-) detail. adding such detail would not be proportionate to the way the rest of the body is made... you would then have to piss about with the reflective texture of the lights etc etc. its a can of worms imo.
but then again - finding the balance is not an easy thing....
