Site cleanup from template, critique?

As people following my thread in the business forum know, I recently got into a bad situation with a client. Since he has decided not to go with my work, I was wondering if anyone here would like to give the work I did for him a critique. Background - this is basically a template cleanup. He gave me a mishmash of folders of his template (maybe 40 or so?) with different modifications via frontpage. My job was to make it look good. The code he gave me was mangled to death by frontpage, so I ended up rewriting the majority of the site.

So, what do you guys think of the cleanup job? Is there any particular area (short of a total redesign) that you think I could have improved on?

Site template I made for him

Current site built from his template

I apologize for the AJAX, it was a protective measure because I did not think he was going to pay, and he was unable to edit the code if I provided it this way. Turns out that it was a good thing I did it like this.

Thanks for any comments!

The new template looks definitely better. But there is much more you can do to improve the look of the site, like the top navigation bar and the layout in overall. Add some backgrounds graphics.

I don't see any reason to use AJAX, but go ahead if you feel like it.

Good job!

Yeah, I'm not a fan of having the AJAX on there, it was the only way I could get my client from mangling the page with frontpage while I worked on it.

I had planned on adding some depth to the logo / text at the top of the screen, just hadn't gotton there at this point.

The navigation bar, I wanted to do something more with, but the budget at the time wouldn't fit in for anything fancy.

Thanks for the critique! I'll try to get a -real- design on here at some point.

Can't say I like yours heaps, it's okay, and is heaps better then that guys version.

As for fix ups, images, the nav is a bit plain, needs some touching up. Don't really like the underline and overline on it either.

Your one doesnt work when javascript is disabled, just a blank white page. Its a bit cleaner than the original, and has a flash bit on it, not much new tbh.
