Lostindesign.net

Hey guys,
Last few weeks I've been busy building a website that should contain usefull and insiprating links for (web) designers all over the world.
I felt that there was a need for this websites, most links come from my personal collection. Please, take a look and tell me what you think about the site, and ofcourse the content on the site. Thanks in advance!
The link is http://www.lostindesign.net

I think the concept is good but the design needs more work.. too much text. Also not keen on the logo. the webpage is just a series of boxes with texts in them so Perhaps jazz it up a lil

Approporiate name - there's so much stuff going on on the homepage that it really does feel like you're 'lost in design'. Don't know if that's what you intended though?

It would be a massive improvement if visited links were highlighted. It's too hard to remember where you've been.

What youve got is a golden concept. But if you really want it to work, you need to get even more organised with you catagories. Portfolio sites for instance, placing them in some kind of sub catagories based either on their main medium (digital art, ills, design) or on the theme or design/emotive image of the site (dark secretive, bright colourfull, bespoke, typographic). If you got something like that and even a small-partial screenshot of the homepage it could be only 20x20pixels big. The web is crying out for good design directories that are well clasified and organised:

take a look through my links too, but again theyre currently unorganised:

Hey all, thank you very much, this was the kind of feedback I was looking for. To defende my self a little, I know the layout is kind a flat and simple, but that was the main goal of the site, just a bunch of links nothing else.
Things might become clearer when introducing subcategories, but then at once the site gets a lot more complex, but I will think about a way of doing that.
And last but not least, thanks Daniel Diggle for the link to your topic, really usefull stuff! I will keep you up to date!

Nice style but the homepage is way to busy. A nice approach in trying to break up the text but still very text heavy.

It's way too wide. A text based site like yours should be able to fluidly adapt to any window size & screen resolution.

The links are all "mystery meat" I don't know what i'm clicking on until I click on them, and then they open in a new window. Rude.

"Not another design directory. Not a big pile of links." Sorry, but that's exactly what it appears to be.

I do not totally agree with you. I it is because of the little screenshots you do know what you are clicking on. The most directories only use a little description to tell what you are going to see, and a picture tells more then a thousand words they say.
On the opening in a new window thing, this was more like a service. I mean in the most cases you are not going to click just one link but you wanna see a whole bunch of sites. So it is kind of annoying if you lose the webpage every time you click a link. As a second most people use tabbed supporting browsers these days and most of the you can configure to auto open new windows in new tabs. Anyway it is worth the thinking to see if there is a nice little way to give users a choice, the same window or a new one.

Unfortunately, the kind of people who find any value in these sites care about how your site looks too.

For starters, I'd lose the handwritten headings and develop a more deliberate colour palette.

You are right, and that is why I totally redesigned the website. I tried to make things a bit clearer by choppin them up. So forget all above and please, let your critisism sound again. By the way, I hope you like the new style...

Great idea if the site is maintained. There's no point having a resource site if it's not up to date.

I know, will fix. There appears a scrollbar with the overlib when you move over a link thats in the bottom of the page. And about the maintainance, thats gonna be just fine!
