new portfolio
http://www.cfwilson.com/ Hello everyone I just found this site the other day and this will be my first post. I just uploaded my new portfolio site and will be adding more content this weekend. There is enough content currently up to see how the site works. Last time I built a flash site was almost 4 years ago, all animated on the timeline, this time just for the sake of the challenge, everything is done in actionscript, and on the first frame, so let me know what you think. Thanks for checking it out Charles |

Charles, welcome to the site and let me be frank from the outset - I don't like the site. here are my two reasons: 1) there is absolutely no point for this website to be made in flash. the flash doesn't do anything apart from move content in from the bottom of the screen - you don't even have rollovers on the menu. in terms of user accessibility and search engine optimisation you should really make the site entirely in HTML/CSS. 2) in terms of design throughout the site, it's not that great at all. the gradient at the bottom is horrible, the entrance is so boring I nearly fell asleep looking at the screen, the photography section is poorly thought out and your navigation menu on the left has obviously had no thought put into it. just think - if you were in the position of your client and you were looking for a freelancer, would you employ yourself? read this forum thoroughly, because there are some great web designers on here that you can really learn from. |

the site isnt great - its obvious this guy has just been starting out so im not gonna say anything harsh... theres not much of a colour theme going on and just the blue/white combination does make it look a bit basic.. I love flash but perhaps i think its used in the wrong way here - you could have a static website (XHTML/CSS) and use flash for a slideshow of your photo work? just simple fade in/outs? |

I think the use Flash is a good concept (obviously), but of course then the arguement ensues of how exactly you implement it on your site. There of course are different ways, but in this instance I feel that perhaps you could have achieved much more given your abilities with Flash. The site is a bit dull, and there is nothing stopping you from doing this exact site design using css/xhtml as said before. Sorry mate. |
