Then STFU and don't comment if that's all you have to say. It's not just "a load of textures bunched together". How would you feel if I said your website is just "text boxes placed over a photo"? Seriously, I expected more from this forum but wow, some pompous people here. |

I gave my opinion - i find it boring because it's textures and photoshop brushes, and not even your illustration of the lion. Perhaps the most pompous ones are the people who post up work expecting praise from everyone. I don't like your illustration, end of. You're more than welcome to your opinion on my work and site, especially if i post it for c&c. Love. |

First off, they're not "Photoshop brushes". They're elements I made myself with gauche on bristol and scanned in. I'm not looking for praise, I'm looking for real critiques not the douchebaggery you posted. If you're going to comment on people's work use two things, first one being tact and the second one an open mind to other people's styles. Just b/c you don't like the style doesn't mean you have the right to knock it by saying "it's just a bunch of ______ thrown together". That's just pure asshole if you ask me. |

I think he gave you an honest critique and I don't wholly disagree with him. Why don't you get upset when people say nothing more than "I like." What kind of a critique is that? It's not. It's a simple affirmative and doesn't make your next piece any better. Regardless of whether someone says, "I love it" or "It's shit" shouldn't you ask "What do you like/dislike about it?" It forces both the creator and the critiquer to actually think about what they're saying and grow in their understanding of visual language and aesthetics instead of just spewing gut reactions (which are fine - so long as they're tempered by a little reason). Which reminds me I should take my own advice more often. There are nice things about it - quite a few in fact. It uses texture combinations well. The color choice isn't terribly adventurous, but does work nicely. My only problems with it are first, that it really isn't anything to it. It's all style and no substance - it looks like a million other things I've seen, which leads me to my second criticism: if it's an illustration, what's it illustrating? Isn't that what illustrations do? Not trying to be a dick. |
