web development / design blog

I've recently redesigned by blog where I post articles on web development, web design, photoshop, etc. and wondering what people think I should change. Unfortunately I can't stop tweaking the design but I'm still not that happy with it...any suggestions what I should change?

Did you follow tutorials on how to do gradients etc? to me its just a mish mash of elements and nothing seems to follow through properly. Your drop shadow on the main section is way too big and the raster effect on the banner is pretty 80's.

Dunno as a "design" blog it just doesn't look right. Colours imo just don't compliment well and the glow shine/glass effects are not quite polished.

have to agree with R1... dont look right at all. But like you said yourself - youre not happy with it either.

I wouldnt say give up but I think a rethink is in order... sorry

hey don't be sorry, I wanted an honest opinion, and I even said I wasn't too keen on it - that's why I was looking for feedback

I'm with Finbarr mate, doesn't look like it quite fits together.

But it's not a re-design job though. Tweak the colours and see where you go from there.

Too many Layer Effects. Bevels, emboss, lighting, gradients, etc. Use them with caution.

forget the design.. its at a point where you can build on it to brush up little bits of pieces and give it its finishing touches,..

but, whats ur site do? there's nothing that welcomes the user and lets them know what the site is all about. i thought it was a site on ipods, then when i scrolled down.. i couldnt be bothered to read anymore as it made no sense.

i dont mean to offend just my personal opinion. let us know what u wanna do with ur site, we can probably give u ideas..

I say start over, I start over all the time. Find something you really like, and use it as inspiration or a style guide for new site. You will be much happier.

It doesn't seem right to me either although I can't put my finger on exactly what it is.. One thing is that I think you need to better separate out the different elements.
The headings on your right column look like they're pointing to your posts, I'd try and turn them around so the arrow is pointing to the right or just forget the point. It'd give a nice hard line separating your right and left columns.
I also think that your posts run together, I'd make the dividing bar, at the bottom of each post, heavier to better differentiate between posts.
Just a few suggestions.

hehe, the sidebar's changed since my first post, was just playing about with another idea - before it was had a gradient to the right-hand side with blue boxes floating down it.

I've removed the points now, and put some more definition to the line between the posts as suggested by poppinphresh. Still don't think it's quite right though...I'm now thinking maybe I should make the sidebar a different colour, maybe a blue so it fits in with the rest of the scheme, yet have it curve towards the content area at the top maybe.
