Spook Site under attack!

Hi guys, i hope you can help me.

I work at a web/graphic design agency called "Spook Creative" in New Zealand, and was given the responsibility for the design and development of our site.

Recently a few staff members (non-designers) have said thats we should get rid of the site and start over, but im not so sure. So i would really like your guys input.

here is the site:
www.spook.co.nz

check it out and tell me what you think.

You can rate out of 10 and even comment if you like.

a) Is the purpose of the site obvious?
b) Is the site Engaging?
c) Loading time?
d) Easy to navigate?
e) can find information you want?
f) Readability?
g) Animation - Used appropriately? Done well?
h) Look & Feel - Does the site project an appropriate image?

Thanks again people. any comments greatly appreciated.

Looks kinda girly. I know Pink is hip these days, but not pale pink like this. Me no like Barbie Studios.

I like the brand identity work though.

» I def like the nav.
» your type solutions are really clean... once you get into the site a bit. def some well layed out pages in there. I like where you're heading.
» not a fan of the intro nor the splash page. the treatment of the pink isn't quite right in my humble opinion.

Doesn't really do anything for me. The pastel tones are make the text illegible, as mentioned above. Also I cant say I like the navigation in the flash version of the site, doesn't feel natural to use.

I like the concept and the design. The pink on pink as well as the grey text is at times very hard to read, but I didn't find it too hard on my laptop. I wasn't a big fan of the constant links to get to a very small amount of content, I'm a firm believer in giving people as much information as they need as fast as possible with as few clicks as possible.

I would say, think about re-colouring some of the text and rethink the way in which information is given (and the navigation).

a) Is the purpose of the site obvious?

7 Not immediately - and this is mostly due to the splash page and the readability of text.

b) Is the site Engaging?

6 It's nice, but the limited height of it make it a bit hard to use. I can't stand internal scrollbars.

c) Loading time?

9 Didn't notice much.

d) Easy to navigate?

8 Yeah. It's clear and straightforward.

e) can find information you want?

9 See above.

f) Readability?

4 Really low contrast. I can read it fine, but I bet my mother wouldn't have as easy a time.

g) Animation - Used appropriately? Done well?

6 I usually see animation on website that doesn't really have a point as inappropriate. In this case, it's pretty lightweight and inoffensive. So, I guess that's a success.

If it were me, I'd ditch the Flash version and do an HTML/CSS (ditch the tables) site. I'm not going to harp on that too much as it's a graphic design portfolio.

h) Look & Feel - Does the site project an appropriate image?

8 Sure. It seems to fit into a definite identity. Is that identity appropriate to your business is the real question...

Overall: I like it.

I kinda like it. Maybe some parts of it need to be less pastel, but i like the feel.
