new site - crit welcome

hey guys,

new site - bit different to my usual stuff (you'll be happy to hear Mr Mik!).

still got all the dummy images in there, but will eventually have interior shots once the cms is all plugged in.

also, too stupid to build a proper preloader to calculate external dynamic image sizes for the homepage flash, so it uses a 'time-waster' preloader to try and compensate for the loading (any suggestions on a better preloader definitely welcome).

thanks in advance for any feedback!

I like this.....very comforting and suitable.....im sure once you have higher res photos in there it will look slick. Only thing i could think of is that they color scheme changes when you click into the site. In my opinion I would stay with one....either the purple or the green. Just a thought....

yep, I'd probably agree with you on the colour changes - that was a client request - idea being that each room was colour-coded in a similar way to a house. guess it doesn't work perfectly.

Quite nice. Don't care for the colors, really. It's not that different.

Like it- but it will need a proper preloader if the images are gonna be that big.

This is probably the best tute on preloading that I've found. Good luck with the rest of the site!

That is great preloader, which I've used before and would definitely use again on this one if it wasn't for that fact this movie pulls in the images externally.

I spent the best part of yesterday working on a solution to get the size of the external files, and include this in the totalbytes of the movie, but just couldn't get it working in the end. If anyone's got any ideas on this I'd appreciate it, as I may well have been overcomplicating when there's an easy solution.

nice enough.

Main thing for me is that the alignment in some of those images doesnt line up with the container box. I know that shouldnt be an issue but some of them (first one in particular) is so close that the fact that it is slightly out only serves to emphasize the misalignment.

Good work tho

Sorry dude, which page are you referring to? And what browser are you using? Just trying to narrow it down, as I can't see any issues in IE or FF.

the main interface with the large images...

as an example the first image that comes up (with the gold plated bowl on top of a unit): to me the fact that the unit top is slightly out of line with the page really upsets the balance of the page.
I know that they shouldnt have to line up but to me its a bit jarring... Chris BCN was refering to the same thing as well I think

gotcha. I didn't notice that when I did, but now you mention it I see what you mean. They should be swapping out most of those images shortly with new interior shots, so hopefully they're abit better.

thanks for the feedback - appreciate it!

Is this page meant to have any content?

It's getting a JS error, not sure if that's stopping anything.

yeh, I agree - the client chose to use those fonts for the logo and I couldn't sway them against it. I'd originally proposed
this design.

Main typeface is probably not everyone's taste either - I actually quite like it, and was keen to use it after buying it a while ago for another site. Perhaps doesn't fit this site so well though.
