Must try harder!

drop shadow, tables, lens flare, glow effect, terrible type...

This is really bad. How much is this guy paying you?

nothing

What do you suggest with type? I like the lense flare, the original picture was REALLY bright right at that point so I added the lenseflare to make it look like it was bright for a reason.

Ouch.. Try some other typefaces and a better banner picture in general. If the pic was to bright then I would scrap it. Its getting there though.

the client is a "woodsmen" im just trying to show him what he can do, it has a backend system we are using and I just copy pasted some meaningless content in to show him the possibilities, as for the actual content thats his whole shindig, the shell is mine. He has some kind of aesthetic attraction to that picture and to that typeface so I wont tell the customer he is wrong, the brightness makes my eyes hurt so I dont really like it. Overall i feel like its very hodgepodged, but I only had 2 hours to do it and it takes atleast 1.5 to get the backend integrated.

I am looking at it now with a little dissapointment, but it makes him happy. So far noone has told me what i should change, just said its bad.

Change the type face, the headings, the colours, the layout, the header image for a start.

If he's paying you nothing why exactly are you doing it?

Although I agree with you, the client gets what he wants. We could hate it but it wont matter, its what they want.

Then again, if hes not paying you anything, why do it and if its for a portfolio piece make it look good for others to see.

could always get some free timber.

I want a tee shirt that says "I used tables..."

with a massive lens flare on the back, holding the phrase (comic sans) "fuck you!"

Do we have to answer this question every week? Hasn't this "why are tables for layout bad" conversation gone on long enough?
