Autumn Sky

I've just joined DT and you all seem like a solid group of designers.

Here's my site: http://autumn-sky.org. It's powered by WordPress but I've put a lot into customizing it and making sure that it validates.

C&C?

The code is pretty good, except maybe on <hr /> which you could replace in CSS by adding a border. It validates in CSS & XHTML, so that's a good sign.

For the header, I really like the concept of a really big header like that, although you should definitely put some more stuff intro it cause it feels a bit empty. A nice brush would make the header look really nice. Jason Gaylor has some really great, free brushes.

For the rest of the site, it's ok I guess. At first glance I didn't see a difference between the left and right part. You should make one more darker than the other by a bit. And the typography is good, but it could be even better I think. One last thing I would do is make the headlines stand out cause even though they have a blue background, they don't really seem that important to me. I would suggest a bigger font size.

There's some work to do, but you're definitely getting there.

Not sure it works generally. Overall, doesn't suggest Autumn, dunno if that matters to you. The header is too big and overwhelming, as well as the girl being poorly drawn. The blue could work but theirs too much at the mo, needs to be varied, maybe work out a 3 colour scheme, blue white and something else. Oblique headers don't work, not in that font and overall style. I'm only sounding harsh because i think you've got the talent, just needs tweaking and a bit of a rethink. Hope that helps.

As said, I don't think it works overall. I really don't like the gradient you've used in the header, I don't like the font, and it's far too large, especially when you've got lots of content and the body of your site looks really busy.

Your site is too busy, there's nothing to seperate each section, it's hard to even find the navigation.

Keep at it

Another person from OK! This forum is pretty devoid of Americans, let alone people from this desolate wasteland...er...state. I'm in Stillwater - what part of OK are you from?

Anyway, the site's alright. Header feels a bit big and the girl could be drawn with a bit more care, but I like the basic concept alright. Drop the justified text - you're getting rivers of white. Also, it looks like the concept started with the header, but you didn't push it much further. Spend some more time in the content areas.

well typographicaly it needs cleaning up. As pgo said run the text ragged and also the bullet points, they should go out-dented within the margin. This is so the left hand vertical run of the text starts at the same place on each line (to make it easy for the eye to mov). Maybe you could have a 2 point indent at new graph start postions. Also increase the margin between the two main colomns.
and... loose the italic sub-heads, soooo BAD... NO ITALIC, especially forced!!

Agree about typogrophy and content area. I adjusted font-size..made it larger. It looked much better. You've got this gigantic header and tiny text/page-elements.
