A New Portfolio

Been a while since I posted one of these. I believe I posted an earlier version of this a while ago.

I have a few things yet to do. I'm going to sifr the dark blue headings to the font that's up top and clean up the URLs via mod_rewrite once I get that stuff figured out. I also may be adding more sites that I've done through work, but I still need to get clarification on copyright issues and whatnot.

The goal was to keep things simple and straightforward, maintain a consistent "brand" throughout (mostly just colors and typefaces) that will carry itself over to business cards and such.

Thoughts?

Also, a few of you have links to Stick & Ink on your sites - could you change those to this site? S&I is probably going the way of the dodo soon.

its clean, well coded and intuitive all things a website should be. My only criticism is I find the design a little too conservative, and maybe a tad boring... sorry pgo! Personal sites such as portfolios give us a rare opportunity to have complete creative freedom - isnt this a good chance to showcase your artistic / graphic design abilities by doing something a little different?...

I always say the hardest site to build is your own.

Repeating much of the above, it is very drab. That blue is depressing. Lacks ZING!

The menu is too hard to distinguish. It is the route to the rest of the site and should be a clear signpost. Not squint and search.

Not for me.

Do you have a piece from your college art portfolio you really like, or some photography. Perhaps incorporate that into the design to bring some colour and pizzazz?

Only trying to help, if I didn't care I wouldn't bother obviously.

I don't know what your part of the world is like, is there an image that typifies where you are, some symbol of americana? A caravan breakfast bar, a freight train, you and your pickup in shades and a steson. Your neighbours pitbull. You see I am fishing but a good main or banner image might give a body to hang it off.

I find the design nice overall, but I'm gonna repeat what others said. You should maybe try to add more flavour to your design.

For the menu, I would probably just take out the bars cause i think without them, it would be even nicer.

And how about some wicked Helvetica titles? They'll add more zing(to quote datahound) to your website for sure.

i think its a bit bland for a portfolio site - certainly not as nice as some of the work inside !!
But i think it is hard trying to do your own portfolio - trying to find time and enthusiasm for unpaid stuff .. at least thats how it si for me .... the content is more important than the container I'd say ...

Maybe you wanna watch the statement on the contact page that tells your current employers that you are still be available for outside work ??? Might that get you in trouble if they find out ??

I wouldn't be so open about it myself ....

Underhand, cloak and dagger tactics may be neccessary to avoid future problems .. ?

As above. Very boring, looks like a developer-only site. Needs some jazz.

A banner image at the top would be an easy place to start.

The whole box design and white text at top looks kinda dull...don't really like that orange bar either.

Sorry, but for all the lecturing and crit you do for other portfolios, it doesn't seem like you have the folio yourself to back it up.

Yes and no. I have my doubts about it, but it was the best solution, I felt.

Nope, it's fine, I checked. So long as freelancing doesn't interfere with employment.

Yes, but of what...

Thanks to most for the responses. Guess I'll jazz it up a bit. Time to whip out the old gradient tool and stock images of trees and shit.

Indeed. Unwarranted, too.
