I like Lewitt, too. Not as much as some, but he's good.

OK. I spiced it up a bit. I'm not sure about the banner images (that is, their orientation).

*see below*

Wish I had better quality photos of my work. I need to find a photography studio around here than I can use for free...

EDIT:

I think I've made a great improvement (or series of them). www.pat-oneill.com

Definitely spicier and more interesting visually.

Why is the "About Me" font size bigger than the others? Also personally I don't like that red line under the heading section. And the images in the heading look blury and might make your visitors a bit dizzy.

Yeah, I didn't notice the font size on that banner. I'll fix that. I know the images are blurry - I'm going to rectify that ASAP.

not much of an improvement really, sorry. Don't like those new roll-overs on the nav, liked the solid white one someone did. Also, though the banner's heading in the right direction, i'm pretty sure it needs a burst of colour, not a variation on your current colour scheme. Wouldn't call that jazz so far.

and the "pat o'neil" "web designer...." and "about me" font really grates with me. A bit too angular. Just my thoughts.

Methinks it's time for an upgrade from a browser that was released 9 months ago today. Still it shouldn't do that. Not sure why it is...

I did, however, agree with adras that the orange bar beneath the banners had to go. Also changed a few other things. I'm pretty much satisfied with it. All that's left is to get better photos of drawings...

Thanks again for all your comments! It's about as spicy as it's going to get - my aesthetic isn't very spicy it seems.

Dear Swollen,

Still think it needs jizzing up. But if you like it that's okay.

How's this for an idea? Keep the site as is but try doing it again privately in the most artisitically outlandish way you can think of. Just to stretch the creative muscle. Would love to see it.

Regards

Shrivelled.

I dont understand the link between your strap line content and header images -

You're a web developer / designer - the portfolio suggests web design, and the header images imply fine art. I think the whole concept is a bit uncertain of itself. I like the design but without a stronger idea I think it's going to get lost in the ether.

To be honest I think both your previous sites - 'pats paints' and 'stick & ink' are stronger conceptually and visually.

The question is what do you hope to achive with this? Is it what you will be showing prospective clients? Or do you hope to capture the long tail? Either way I think your entering this without a game plan.

Correct me if I'm completely off the scent.

Very nice site!

Focusing on menu was difficult for me due to bright picture placed under it.

But its nice overall

regards.

I plan on replacing those images eventually - I totally agree that those images don't "fit". I'm going to see what it looks like without those images altogether (but keeping that pale blue/grey heading bar) and with just using screenshots in there.

For the time being, I'm not actively seeking freelance work, so I'm actively showing it to prospective clients. I'm surpised to hear you say that about patpaints.com because it has virtually no concept and very little thought behind it.

Anyway, thanks for your input as always. You too Zaigham...I've seen that avatar somewhere before I think.

I really like the work, although I think you are conservative on size. I am curious as to what CSS u used on the rollovers for the navigation, could you please enlighten me, I really like that feature.

I am color blind, but your shades look very pleasing to me, and I like the use of shadows around the borders... although you did it the same way I did for my first design which I thought was a stupid solution, so I feel a little better about myself after seeing someone more proficeient do the same.

HTML for navigation:

HTML Code:
<ul id="nav" class="clearfix"> <li><a href="/" accesskey="1">about</a></li> <li><a href="/services.php" accesskey="2">services</a></li> <li><a href="/portfolio.php" accesskey="3">portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="/contact.php" accesskey="4">contact</a></li> </ul>

CSS for navigation is as follows:

Code:
.clearfix:after { content: "."; display: block; height: 0; clear: both; visibility: hidden; } .clearfix { display:inline-block; } .clearfix { display:block; } The clearfix stuff is applied to several elements throughout the pages. #nav { width: 650px; padding: 0 25px; margin: 0 25px; background: url(../images/bg-nav.gif) repeat-x bottom left #DA4F34; } #nav li { display: inline; list-style-type: none; padding: 0; margin: 0; } #nav li a:link, #nav li a:visited { float: left; padding: 2px 10px; margin: 4px 10px 4px 0; font-weight: bold; color: #FFF; text-decoration: none; } #nav li a:hover { padding: 1px 9px; border: 1px solid #E68673; background: url(../images/bg-nav-hover.gif) repeat-x bottom left #E68673; color: #FFF; } #nav li a:active { background-image: none; background-color: #FFF; color: #3F5764; }

I gathered all that quickly from source about 2 hours ago, I was much more interested in where you came up with idea, or where you found the CSS to do so.
