too much text. sometimes saying less is more. said the wise northern monkey. and the domain is not great. how do you refer to yourself? "Hi this is web design"? and what if someone from coventry wants a website? the main text area has too much padding, and the logo/navigation/headings have too little. it's bold and clean though which I like. |

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. Ok, I won’t use the "L" word ! Point taken about the logo ! I’m only concentrating on Nottinghamshire to begin with and there are lots of high ranking competitors (SEO) so I needed to do something to compete on the search engines hence the focus on “Web Design Nottingham” - whenever I can say it without annoying the visitor. Regarding “too much content” – are you talking about the front page or all the pages? Cheers |

You should be using the .co.uk then. The .com won't do you any good. I know of the guy who runs www. chant4.co.uk (no referals please) from another forum. His site and work is a bit shit but he comes top of google for the term "Web Design Nottingham". Maybe you could learn from his site about the type of keywords google is after. Quote:
yeah all pages, but the front page especially. It's good information but maybe too much for the casual browser who just wants to know who you are, what you do, why you think you do it well, and how to contact you. If it's well written you could maybe move alot of it into "fact sheets" available in their own "resources" section. or something. |

yes - like the idea about fact sheets ! Yes, I’ve had a good look at the top 5 in Google, MSN and yahoo. I expect to get into the top 10 once the ageing filters are removed from the domain name – it’s new. To get any higher up the list I will have to concentrate in back links - we'll see... I heard that .com was better for SERPS ? Thanks all for your feedback – it’s that fine tuning that give the edge. |

if someone's searching google.co.uk then .co.uk sites will come higher (like-for-like obviously). that's what we've found anyway, and we've even moved clients onto .co.uk domains because of it. |
