lightondark.com

for a while now i've wanted to build a showcase website, but i didn't want to just build another css vault, or css beauty.

most of the sites i visit have a white background, and black text, but when done right, a site with a black background and white text can leave a lasting impression. so i decided to build a showcase of well designed sites that use that color scheme.

i've completed the design & coding, and have started adding sites to the gallery.

i would love some feedback on the site design and useability:

thanks in advance for you feedback.

cheers,
mubs

looks good... the only thing I'd say is that the font for the news items is not easy on the eyes - possibly make the weight normal instead of bold

Site looks good. Coding and CSS also looks sound. As for the text, I agree with Fin.

Good site.

oh..... i don't know if its just me but in the mast head (the top bit i don't know what you web designers call it) but the "inspiration for your darker side" text i think doesn't need to be higher i think on the baseline would be alot Cleaner. It just looks uncomfortable up there....

i've changed the text to normal weight for the news, and it does look better.

and with the "inspiration for your darker side" text, i actually wanted it raised like that, kindy something higher that you're aspiring to . however, i think it wasn't high enough, so i moved it a little higher, let me know what you think.

thanks for the feedback guys.

cheers,
mubs

i still don't like it.... sorry.... there is nothing to take me up there when my eye reads the page!

its has no symmetry (normal or assymmetrical) - [or actually it has both which doesn't work together]
if you understand what i'm trying to say...

there seems to be conflict within the layout of the text with it up there!!!...

if i was you I'd design a proper logo and then place the tag line underneath/to the side/etc.

at the moment imo it looks like the logo text is too near the side... maybe that'll appease cocknose (I do agrre that something's not right)

it's...well done and that- but well boring as well. No interest in it. Too much dark - http://www.styleboost.com/ thats light on dark and interesting - few gradients, nice logo like finbarr suggested, and elements apart from flat colour (photo at the top)

I like it and I like the concept - at least it's not just another showcase site.

i wouldn't say the site was 'boring', simple yes, and that's kinda what i was aiming for.

i wanted to make sure the emphasis remained on the sites in the gallery rather than the gallery itself, and like i said in one of my posts on the site, keeping the page simple allowed me to use large higher quality screenshots of the sites in the gallery, and not be too worried about how long the page would take to download.

personally i don't like styleboost too much, nothing like wasting 300 pixels at the top of the site, and most of the text is very hard to read.

to each their own i guess ...
