Work in Progress, Looking for Comments

So, it's time to redesign our site and I've come up with a work in progress. Hopefully you guys will tell me if its horrible, ok but can use improvement, or great just the way it is.

link: http://www.rebornstudio.com/newdesign/

Please note:

1) Content is not final, just temporary

2) If you have a big monitor, please imagine that the background image extends all the way to the bottom. Right now it just does that repeating edge thing, but it'll just be one cohesive image in the final version.

I actually like the current design more... it's brighter and more attractive i think. But I have to say that only the logo, nav and header area is attractive, the content area is kinda bland.

The new design seems kinda dull to me too, sorry. Not really feeling the mesh look either. Might I suggest working on your current design to make the content area more perty?

Current site is much better, don't bother redesigning. Istead, take the time to convert it to css/xhtml - horrible coding on your site, but the design is nice. Your redesign idea is horrible

don't like the yellow mouseover on the top menu on the current site, I would have gone for a neutral grey. Or a green maybe to fit in with the logo.

yep, your current site is simple, modern and fresh looking - definitely stick with that, and maybe try some different header fonts and making a slightly cooler menu at the top. The redesign is far too busy and looks alot less professional.

Chiming in with the "keep the old one" bandwagon.

I'd say ditch the redesign and spruce up the old one - convert it from table-based layout to CSS/(X)HTML and add some padding - it needs to breathe more.

Thanks for all of the comments and feedback. I personally didn't feel like the new one was that bad, but I'm probably the worst person to judge that since I designed both.

Any specific comments as to what we can do to spruce up the old design besides what's been mentioned already?

Will definately redo it with proper css / xhtml. I like the ideas of working on the nav bar and adding some padding... anything else?

I'd consider elevating the page area graphically, then adding a subtle background which doesn't detract from the design's simplicity but instead enhances it. Having said that though, it does also look cool as it is with no bg.

Other than that, I'd definitely treat the image borders, body text, header text and perhaps find a replacement to the scroller unit on the right.

The flash headers are cool, altho the homepage one could do with more animation, as the others look more better.

I'd also drop the dashed borders - they look kinda tacky.

I'd change the yellow mouseover on the top nav to the same shade of green as the logo. I agree with losing the dashed borders. I think the footer could do with a little TLC too. As I said before, the content area in general looks kind of dull, so maybe play around with your content and try some different layouts - maybe have the "Reborn Highlights" positioned horizontally underneath your flash and the featured projects laid out vertically... just a couple of thoughts off the top of my head

Am I the only one who doesn't mind the yellow rollovers?
