my work in a tube
I don't know about you, but somedays I create something I'm so proud of, I think yes, I was meant for this job. Other days and more recently, the fire feels like its dying. Maybe naturally people who think more visually get bored faster because its like the present is always catching up with what our imaginations have already played. Apologies for the lack of focus in this post, but quite honestly so has my design career. I guess I'm looking for anyone who can relate to this wandering feeling in their work. What is important when trying to get a sense of forfillment? Is it exposure (hence this forum) Is it the wage packet from your employer, is it praise from other designers you respect? Is it for happy clients? And what exactly are we?? Are problem solvers, are we just good listeners who carry out what other people visualize and therefore just an instrument. Or do we just carry on the aesthetic trends! Hopefully someone can relate to some of what Ive just rambled on about??? Anyhow, I created this movie of feeling lost in my work. The page was originally created to provoke interest from other agencies. I thought I change in location of work might help my lost feeling....how Ironic that would be. its at http://www.michaelbarnett.co.uk I look foward to your thoughts and feedback |

I think it's true for all fields - some people are going to be innovators, some people are going to be run-of-the-mill problem-solver types, and some just waste space. Everyone has potential for each. If you're lacking fulfillment or motivation, no one can tell you what you need to hear to change. As a longtime sufferer of motivational difficulties, I can only tell you that you are the source of your own motivation and fulfillment. Paychecks, respect, etc, will help, but you have to find something personal to make your work fulfilling. Maybe do more strictly personal work on the side? Flash clip was good, too. |

Well I loved your little website. As for motivation - I find I love some work and hate others, and it all comes down to the client I happen to be working for. Some hate your work and demand you design stuff you think is shit, and that is a real downer. |
