Fairly simple Football site - Feedback needed!

Hi guys.

I'm after a few comments on a design I am currently working on for a client. Its a football type of site, which is only up to the stage of 75% homepage completion...but thought I would pass it through you guys before I go any further.

Its not my normal style of site, however, the client has basically given me no liscence whatsoever, and the whole idea and concept is down to him...I have just designed it as well as I can.

The homepage is at: www.4toscore.com/website

This stage has now also been passed onto the client.

Cheers guys.

why does it looklike youve incorporated the russian 'hammer and sickle' logo into yours? Is that deliberate?

finbar - not sure of this? I worked with the client one day to achieve that design... do you have a link?

lucidcreations - please start, this style of design is no where near my expertise, and I need all the critism I can get The instructions for the design were "all" the clients requirements... no liscence whatsoever

The 'hammer and sickle' is the Russian national emblem - look at their flag!

Ah. I see a slight resemblence to the 4, but no inspiration has come from the flag.

Any comments on the actual layout... its driving me nuts! Its exactly the way he wants it laid out though.

if it's how they want it then take the money and move on. nothing we tell you is gonna make a difference in their tiny mind.

but....the goal posts look very small and you could maybe have made the nav at the top look more like the advert things around the pitch.

I'd not use Pepsi/Fanta etc as a background - it's copyrighted. Unless you have permission of course.

Those ads are in there just for the time being until I come to finalise them... I think that area needs touching up to make them look like actual football pitch adverts.

Can anyone help by providing some helpful critisism? I think the adverts need some work doing to them. Any ideas of how to improve etc?

Thanks
