Tell me what you think, honestly

Hello,

I've set up this website, http://www.pcstreetwise.com

1. Please tell me what you think of the design, any possible content, Ease of use/navigation etc.

2. Anyone know of a decent ASP based blog?

3. Also I submitted this site to google a few months ago but it's still not showing up. Does anyone know why?

Any critique greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Alan

I think the logo/banner needs more contrast. I can't see the site's name. Also, each content or menu 'box' is messed up in FireFox. I'd work on those two things pronto!

Yeah i think the site name should be bolder like you say.
I'm using FF 1.07. Don't see anything wrong with the boxes!!!

I don't like it.

Constructive criticism:
The design looks clinical and cold.
The logo is near impossible to read - what is the dark grey swirl behind it?
Content - what content?

One of the reasons why Google isn't picking up you site may be down to the lack of description tag, and meta tags not reflecting the content of the site.

"The design looks clinical and cold" - I was thinking maybe a Yellow/Orange alternative?

Logo - I wanted some sort of binary somewhere in the design, just thought the swirl looked cool. Maybe not though, eh? Maybe i should move the swirly thing/binary to the right hand side and have the actual logo on plain colour on the left, to make it stand out more?

Content - Trying to think of decent computer related content to have online (there's so much around) Was thinking of using it as a blog/forum a bit like this site, but for Technical & Gaming plus maybe Programming discussions (these are my interests/hobbies). I know it's gonna be hard getting members too. I guess i need decent content to lure them in in the first place!!

It looks like a template - or something generated by PHP-Nuke or a similar CMS.

Also, since you're advertising FF, why not build the site to standards, which is what Firefox is so good at.

I don't care for the colors. And it doesn't look original enough. Text could be a bit bigger.

I don't like any of the themes, but I find "Dark" the least offensive.

"Whats there to critique" - I know. it's a CMS system. Just want feedback on the Logo, Site Colours and Graphics, Layout etc.

It is built to standards, I use FF 1.07 and it works fine. Are you having problems viewing it with FF?

But if it's a standard template, how can you ask for critique on someone elses design that you have downloaded?

I didn't "rip" anything. I don't believe in ripping other peoples work. The site uses the EZaspsite CMS. I even donated to the EZasp Project!!

It's not a rip, people, it's generated by a CMS like PHP-Nuke. As I initally suggested.

No, it works fine in FF, but it certainly isn't built to standards.

HTML Code:
<link href="forum/scheme/EzDark/default_Style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.pcstreetwise.com/forum/includes/default_javascript.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <html> <head>
Note that there are HTML tags that belong in the <head> that are outside the <head>, note that there is no DOCTYPE.

Note that the W3C HTML Validator finds 133 errors.

And the CSS is also invalid.

So, no, it isn't valid and it isn't built to standards. And it uses tables for layout.

OK, sorry. Just wanted some design ideas!

Maybe you could critique my other site i designed (from scratch this time) that i did for the company i work for? http://www.cardpos.co.uk

I know it uses frames, and that's bad, (for search engines anyway) but it seems to do alright in some google searches. I designed custom 4xx error messages, as well as various methods to bring the user back into the frameset should they come in to the site through the wrong page.

Please be honest. from your previous replys Re pcstreetwise.com i'm sure u won't hold back!!!
