Google Sitemaps

Didn't see this posted anywhere: www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login

Google collaborative crawling system that allowing submission of sitemaps

I haven't tried it yet but looks to be a good thing - although my pages seem to rank quickly anyway but adding more food for the spiders can't hurt.

The paranoid might see this as a positive step, reducing the ability for people to spider you as you have a record of content delivery. They might also be wondering if it means Google can keep a closer eye on you...

Here's a useful website that builds formatted xml sitemaps for you:
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

1 Enter your full website URL and some optional parameters in the form below.
2 Press 'Start' button and wait until the site is completely crawled (the progress will be indicated)
2 You will see the generated sitemap details page, including number of pages, broken links list, XML file content and link to a compressed sitemap. Download the sitemap file and place it in the root of your site.
4 Inform Google about your sitemap location using the HTTP request

I think I recall coming accross an unlimited (pay for) system while trawling the web - must be one out there somewhere. Failing that, you could always hand-code it!!!

XML anyone?

There's a google script that does that?
Anyway, I submitted it, it says it's ok. We'll see if anything happens

Not sure if this is due to the sitemap thingy, but now my subpages have a PR (they had lost it a couple of months ago, when I took the site downd during a google dance, I think)
Anyway, I think it's well worth a shot.

With Google Sitemaps you get:

* Better crawl coverage to help people find more of your web pages
* Fresher search results
* A smarter crawl because you can provide specific information about all your web pages, such as when a page was last modified or how frequently a page changes

basically you're taking the googlebot by the hand and showing it around.
plus you submit it directly to google, so it does not have to locate it on its own.
As I said, I noticed an improvement in google hits since I created the sitemap. Not a huge one of coursem but noticeable. And in the end it can't hurt you, can it?
