search engines, mailing lists
hey guys/gals, i'm looking for two things, 1. a way to administer a mailing list, as in user visits my site, enters email into form, and are added to a mailing list that my updates e-newsletters will go to. and 2. i registered for yahoo over a month ago, it said it would take 3 wks for it to resolve. what's the deal, i don't see it anywhere even when i search for keywords i know should work. and also, if there are any other search engines, preferably free, that anyone kno's that i can register to, it would be much appreciated if a tip was dropped... or if it's pay, i'd like the biggest bang for buck. i'm working on a new layout so currently i'm not that stressed w/ these issues, but i'll be done the layout soon and i will want these things ironed out. thanks... |

Yahoo! doesn't guarantee inclusion. I can submit your site to 250+ of the most used search engines for $25. You can also submit them yourself for free but it will take a while! If you do it yourself remember to include sites like www.google.com, www.altavista.com, www.msn.com, www.alltheweb.com etc etc. Google is the largest and most used search engine. As for paid inclusion there are a few options available to you. 1. You can pay for inclusion in some search engines which give a guaranteed update time, usually once every 24-48 hours - this allows you to work on your page optimization and get quick feedback rather than waiting 4-6 weeks before finding out if your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) was fruitful. 2. You can go the PPC (Pay-Per-Click) route where your link is guaranteed to finish above non-sponsored results and you pay everytime someone clicks on your link. (snipped by Oli) |

I guess living in America makes you a 100% capitalist show-off cowboy instantaneously. Nothing wrong with that - we're just not used to it here in Europe Bureaupe -= In theory, theory should work in practice. =-

I use GroupMail by Infacta (www.infacta.com) and it works fine for me. I also implemented eNewsletterpro for another client who seem chuffed with that (http://www.enewsletterpro.com/) If you are going to be doing Search Engine work, you can do worse than looking at (and joining) www.webmasterworld.com Jon Eland :: StrawBleu

1. Try listserv. 2. Check out the freeware sites, they usually have a number of search engine submission programs, you just plug in yer url and go. FYI though, don't use one that is old and don't submit your url more than once a month or you'll get dropped by most of them. |

Update - don't submit more than once. Almost all search engines worth their salt will find you if you're worth finding. Go read WebmasterWorld and see how the pros approach it. Submitting to search engines has very little to do with position these days. In fact mentioning the site on here (with URL) would probably do more for it than submitting to certain SE's!
