how clever is google?

if you dont know the meaning of a word type -

define design (for eg)

into the google search bar and it gives you a definition!

or type -

10 * 4

and its a calculator too... fantabidosy

Not everyone thinks Google is so clever...well, maybe clever in its monopoly of the search engine market:

http://www.google-watch.org/
(yes, not the best design, but content matters here. Funny, Google's toolbar ranks google-watch.com 7 out of 10 in terms of importance. Expedia.com = 5/10 and Orbitz.com = 8/10. That's some pretty impressive company. Type in "bad google" and you'll find google-watch.com on the first page)

Interesting to note in the content of this site is the link off the main page that talks about the blatant disregard for YOUR privacy.

that cookies thing is a load of bollocks - cookies are required to remember user settings, its not possible for the cookie theyre showing to track peoples movements..

they set it to expire 40 years from now cause its easier than making it expire in 2 months when someone may be using teh same settings

There's a bit more on the site than just the cookies issue, and I was pointing out that not everything google does is great. But then again, what is?

(rhetorical, or course, but I'm sure I'll get an answer)

How can Google be considered a monopoly when by their own admission...
