How to get ranked in Google?

okay well Ive put this www.willohomes.com up on the internet a while ago but I still havent found any way of getting it to show up in Google. It works great in yahoo ie when you search 'custom homes kitchener' its number 1 but in google its like one hundred pages in. What am I doing wrong? Does google mainly go off of backlinks (I think thats what there called) or what?

Thanks.. and sorry if someone has already posted something like this before.

It takes time. If the site has been up for less than 30-90 days, I wouldn't worry about not being listed in Google yet. But since it's listed, you know it's at least visiting your site.

It just takes time for Google to push you up through the rankings - ever notice how so many of the first results in Google are crappy sites that haven't been updated in a decade? That's because they've been there for a decade.

Do some SEO on it (use appropriate HTML, etc, etc - too big a topic to really get into). Get some other sites to link to you.

Look into semantic HTML. No more - <span class="heading">. Why would you do that when there are 6 heading tags in HTML? I'd rewrite the HTML before anything - and write it well.

I believe, someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that Google places a higher value on backlinks than other SEs.

Get some keywords in your <title> and an <h1> - they are the most important elements to search engines.

Getting ranked on Google.

Misterphotoshop,

What key words or phrases are you trying to get ranked with? I will share with you one of my secrets and that is I will not work with a client who wants to get ranked with a search phrase that brings up more then 6 Million results. Test your key words or phrases to make sure they pass this test and you will greatly increase your chances.

why waste a PR3?

anyway to be ranked on google you must have backlinks and better if they are relevant, if your site is on web design you should try to buy a link from a web design site with a nice PR, a nice PR is when the PR is 4 or above.

If you have the right keywords, continue to get inbound links and give it time Google should rank you highly eventually.

One good tips that has really helped me in the past has been to label all images on the websites after the right type of keywords I want.

If you have the resources, you can always buy inbound links, too. Recently, I needed to get a site ranked fairly speedily and decided to buy 3,000 inbound links for $400 - it definitely did the trick (although you may have more competition for your keywords than I did).

Hello

Work needed before: Intensive Research for Keywords, Competitors Keywords.
Optimized each page with unique Keywords. Tags, H1.
Work needed after: Inbound Links from related Sites. Its better to have links from low PR but relevant to your site THAN High PR but completely irrelevant to your site.

If your site is truely a business, then I recommend biting the bullet and pay for adwords on google. For a tiny budget of £5/day I'm gathering data about my potential users using adwords that I would normally never get. Once I know my customers I'll have better targetting and increase my budget accordingly.

Thread necromancy - cardinal sin of forums.

No complicated SEO required for this one. If the dude wants his site to show up as "custom homes kitchener", then he should start with putting "custom homes kitchener" in his title tag, keywords and description.

Right now he ranks #1 for Will O Homes, which happens to be the title he's using as well as the first 42 characters of his keyword string. The words custom, homes or kitchener don't even appear in the description. META tags aren't everything, but they are certainly a good start - especially the title and description.

Google can't rank a site if you don't tell big G what the site is about.
