Alexa - how important?
I've been asked a few times now about how Alexa works and how a higher rank status can be achieved. It's all still pretty new to me but as far as I know, Alexa records hits from web browsers with the Alexa toolbar installed - if this is the case what, if anything, can be done at design level to gain exposure? Also, is Alexa worth losing hours of design time over (like Google's PageRank) or a complete waste of time? |

I don't think that Alexa is worth the time, however to imporove the ranks with alexa and anything else for that matter - make sure that you have the keywords that people will look for the site in the title tag, body tag and the meta tags - also make sure that all your images have alt tags and use cs based design over table layouts... |

Our own site started off about six months ago with a mediocre Alexa rank (ranked around the 2Mth mark) expecting an improvement with an increase from 90 to 3,500 hits to the site per month - but instead have ended up with nothing. Just a sad little empty white box! Not overly bothered personally, although it doesn't bode well when a client enquires about it. |

Alexa rank is worth less than a plate of shit and chips. It can be so easily manipulated and its only really an indicator of how many people visit your site with the Alexa toolbar installed. If you really want to boost it put an Alexa counter on your site. |

From what I've read Alexa is pretty much a waste of time. Google is so dominant it's become a one-horse race in terms of importance. Spend your money & time on the G |
