What is the best way to collect info about affiliate programs / websites?

I have a list of about 50 affiliate sponsors (adult), and all the websites that are part of their network. I want to get an idea of what would be the best choices to work with etc. I am looking at the following information right now (I write it all down in Excel):

- websiteoutlook.com -> Daily Page View, number of backlinks
- quantcast.com -> Visits Per Month
- compete.com -> Unique Visitors Per Month

So I am basically gonna see what the traffic is, and how many backlinks each website has. Then I want to do some calculations and go from there.

Does what I am doing make sense? Are there any better places to get info about websites, compare them, ang get a general idea what is what?

Thank you.

These companies are essentially running on speculation. They have developed algorithms that tell them how many unique visitors they *think* a site is getting monthly, but as they don't have direct access to the sites, they really don't actually know.

I know the info doesn't come from servers, or analytic progrms etc, but that's still better than nothing. I get the relative information, so I can compare sites, I dont really need to know whether they had 2500 or 2350 visitors last month etc, as long as I can compare all the sites together, based on something...

I think there is more places like this, maybe paid, but I think it can be done a litte better, than I am doing it right now etc...

I want to base everything that I will be doing on numbers (as much as I can), also when it comes to keyword research, niche choices etc.

Thank you.

I found some more info that can be collected, but maybe there is more...

- Google Page Rank
- Number of backlinks indexed by Google
- Google Index
- Alexa Reputation (number of backlinks)
- Number of backlinks indexed by Yahoo
- Yahoo Index
- Bing Index

Again, I am talking about adult websites, that sell xxx movies, pictures etc (Mofos, Brazzers, Naughty America etc). I signed up to about 120 programs all together, and I picked about 60 that I would be interested in (the other ones had bad design, old content etc, I let them go just by looking at the websites).

Now I have that list of +/- 60 and I am collecting information about all the sites that are withing the programs (sometimes 5, sometimes 40, and anything in between). I have traffic per day / traffic per month (from different sources, thats why I consider both here), website position in the ranking of all the sites (like Google of Facebook no1, that no 2 etc, from different sources too), page rank, number of backlinks and some other information.

For now, I've been able to weed out some of the lowest traffic sites (if nobody goes there, there's gotta be a reason for it - I am not gonna be trying to push something like that, because it probably doesnt make sense; I am talking about =/- 10% only, some of the sites that have low traffic might be less competitive too, so I am gonna keep them) and also noticed that some of the sites have a lot of backlinks and some sites dont have any (at least in the estimations and info thats available, I know it is not correct etc) - like there would be a sites that attract a lot of sites (even up to 6000) that compete with each other for leads. This is mostly the case (but not only) with multi-site access passes etc - sites like that have to convert a lot better, thats why the competition is bigger etc.

I am doing this, because it looks like I can learn a lot from these numbers, and it is definetely worth it to spend some time collecting this information and looking at it, as I am gonna be using it, and basing my decisions on what I am gonna be doing, probably for another few years etc.

Here, I am just trying to see, what other info I can get out there etc. I know about all the SEO research websites etc, but for now I will probably stick to the number of backlinks only. But, in general, there are tools where you can break down and see how people rank on the 1st page of goolge, what you can do to outrank them etc - all that info is available, and I thing it can be obtained for free, also (it just takes a lot more time without subscription).

If you rank on the 1st page of Google (which has about 60% of search markert) and you work with affiliate programs, that means you are making money. Thats why I am trying to base everything on the numbers right from the start.

Haha - you make it sound so easy. It reminds me of people who are moving into an industry, and say 'if I can just get 1% of the industry, I'll make a fortune', not realizing that it's pretty freakin hard to get that 1%.

First rank on google for any term worth anything is going to be really, really hard to get.

Thats why I am trying to prepare as good as I can before I start, then I am gonna be working only on one website (or maybe 3 max after a while) to see if I can get somewhere with this.
On the other hand there are websites / tools that enable people to see exactly what other people are doing (competitive research), and try to adjust their strategy to their info. I think that getting links is the hardest and takes a lot of time etc (thats why some pages are very hard to beat - they have like 2000 links, and you start with zero, and there is no way to get around that to outrank them etc...)
It is also gonna be more about ranking for keywords like "word another_word one_more_word maybe_even_another" etc... There's got to be a way to do this, but I am sure it is not easy to get to the level of being able to make a living off it etc.
