What makes a great band website?

Hey everyone!

The company I work for are doing some research for a thesis on  "What elements make a perfect band website" If you have a free 30 seconds, I would really appreciate it if you could give me your opinions/suggestions on this matter.

A few examples are things such as video blogs and free mp3's. The more detail, the better!

Also, if there are any examples of band websites that you visit reguarly, please post them and a reason why!

Thank you.

[Also, I am new here and look forward to getting involved with the designers talk community]

Direct links to amazon or similar to buy their album.

NO music playing over the site - a choice to stream their songs would be good, though.

An 'if you like us, you'll like these guys' page with recommendations to other bands of a similar sound/style.

An updated list of upcoming gigs.

A community forum for fans.

A selection of streaming songs and videos always keeps me on a band's site.

A real deal breaker for me is unnecessary splash pages. I just visited a band site that had four splash pages, all with just an image and an enter link.

And of course it all has to be stylishly presented.

A fan message board. I cannot stress this enough. There are two bands I listen to and I am a member on both of their message boards. I check for new posts every day.

Minimal flash on the site. Flash should be used to enhance a website, not be the entire thing.

As someone mentioned, elimination of splash pages. Splash pages are 100% of the time pointless. they're just another thing preventing visitors from getting the information they want quickly. If I want to know if and when a band I like is coming to my city for a show, I dont care to see a huge image of the bands name and logo as the first thing that pops up. I can see that just fine 1/4 of the size in the banner at the top.

When band websites DONT resize your browser window. Its annoying, and pointless, and I resize it back anyway.

Recap:
1. Use flash only to enhance your site, DONT build the whole thing from it.
2. NO splash pages, they are obstacles to information.
3. NO browser window resizing, its annoying
