Site Promotion

Okay guys - how do you go about promoting your (personal or business ventures) sites. I've just launched a new site and was curious as to what everyone does to get the domain knocked about.

I have somebody doing search engine optimisation so that is sorted but was interested to know if people contact magazines, local press, flyer everyone they see, wear a t-shirt???

I read about a man who paid a farmer to have his url sprayed on sheep so people would see as they drove along the motorway .. maybe you could do something along those lines ?

i say you have to get people when they're online, otherwise they have to write down or remember a url which from experience i've found poeple just do not do. the only way people remember stuff is if you force it in their faces everywhere they go.

...so i thought we'd disperse with traditional tried and tested methods of site promotion and instead, i'd like you all to wear t-shirts.

once i was in this webiste for an art collective and we decided to do guerilla marketing.

1-we screenprinted 200 posters on pink fushia paper with our website address and pasted the entire 200 on a single street corner in montreal.

2-we got 6000 buisness cards printed and whenever one of us would go travelling we would leave some wherever in the most absurd places (cabinets of airplane toilets, on cinema chairs, in pockets of clothing in clothing stores) . it's like marking your own territory but without the urine and much more socially acceptable.

3-having website launch events works well too depending on the type of website. we'd usually have a repetitive dj who would go well with our repetitive personalities and repetitive website. after that you're considered all artsy and suave even if you're a sad ripoff of abbie hoffman's political actions of the late sixties.

de retour à la normale

IIRC, CI Host (Ithink) won an eBay auction to have their company logo shaved into the back of some nutters head for 12 months. Got (limited) world wide press interest.......

for the sweeter things in life visit http://www.

You can promote your website by talking to people and getting links on their websites and submit it to forums like this one.

Edit By Oli : in the advertising section though, eh ?
