You do SEO on your own site? well, that's good! with your question, yeah exchanging links to other web designers may improve your PR especially when that link exchange partner has a high PR of like 5 and above. Usually it's better to exchange links with your competitor or complementary sites. Don't link exchange with sites that has nothing to do or not related at all to your site coz that would have a bad effect. Good luck! |

Exchanging links with any good page rank website / blog will increase your page rank. I don't see none of the bad effects concerning PR if you exchange links with dodgy sites. You can also improve your PR by exchanging links with PR0 blogs and site, but you'll need a LOT of them. |

This is very interesting. Please let's keep this discussion going. This year, I have had considerable success in promoting a website I did for a company. My SEO and link exchanges appear to have increased the traffic threefold to their website. It continues to grow and their trade has also increased. The thing is I just wish I could have this effect with my own website. Why can't I promote my web designing as well? Linking with blogs seems a good idea. I had not thought there would be any point exchanging links with other web designers. Seemed a little pointless. However, I suspect I would be far more likely to gain work through someone else's web design site than vice versa. I need to work at this. I have a little bit more work to do on my site first though. Any other useful avenues for link exchanges? A few ideas off the top of my head (tell me if you agree) Printing companies. Yes defiantly link exchange can boost you page rank but for that to work effectively the links you get from other sites have to be from " authority sites". For example an authority site may be an extremely popular website that relates 100% to you industry which has a PR of 5 or higher. A link from an authority site is worth 100 links from your average site so to speak so it is better to have quality links pointing back to your site. Another great way to get links is to launch press releases because as time passes that article gets archived and its PR will eventually which at the same time is pointing to your website. Hope this helps. Boston SEO Freelancer - MA SEO |

It does have a bad effect if you link exchange with pron sites and what not. So be careful who you link to. And yes, the more related the other's content the more it helps you, but by linking to websites that you've designed it won't have a bad effect. I've got a PR of 2 and I'm only linking to 35 of my sites that I've designed. also, make sure that your link text are keywords that you are trying to rank for. making your link matthaff.com will only help you if people are searching for "matt haff" if you make it "Atlanta web design by Minds Eye Cumming Web Design" then that's focusing on keywords "Atlanta, web, design, minds, eye, Cumming" get the point? |

Well, I have a PR of 3 so far, but I'm having a hard getting above that with any of my sites. I'd ultimately like to have a PR 5-6 for my site, but I just don't know how to break that barrier. I was thinking it might be a good idea to start exchanging links with web designers in other areas, since 90%+ of my work comes from local and return customers... I figure I'd be better off getting to the top 10 for local searches while simultaneously boosting competitors' sites in their areas. The only question I have is how to approach people with an offer like that... Not many people are quick to promote their competition. |

Hey smoseley, I've had similar thoughts about promoting competition, or working together with people in the same or similar field to get us all more coverage/clients. So far I do it with two web designers and it seems to be benefiting us all pretty well. Drop me a message if you'd like to give it a go with me. Cheers, Leigh |

yea yeah, I only use "cumming web design" on the website that people are located in or around Cumming, GA so they know that it's nothing to do with Pr0n... everywhere else I use "Atlanta web design" |

yeah but how much content do you have on your site, and how long has the site been live? You probably know there is more to it than just link exchanging... |

You should try to get relevant link exchange for your site. it will help you to get traffic which is more targeted and will help you to gain business. Though in terms of SEO it may not help you |
