Isn't this just moving the browser monopoly from one to another? Less choice works out great for the developer but I'm not in to the whole concept of running out the competition for cash. I smell a rat. Possibly the makings for a deal with Google to buy the browser out. That said, I doubt there'll be a firefoxdestroyer.com in the near future. |

I've always believe there should be one single browser engine that is developed by the W3C and browser developers can add any extra functionality they want on top as long as it doesn't break standards compliancy. The browser developers would be responsible for a quality user interface and whatever additional functionality they wanted. That way, website developers would never have a problem developing sites to suit all platforms. |

Yes I don't have a problem with one browser dominating the market as long as its sticks to the W3C standards. So with that in mind a shift to FF from IE is fine. Still can't work out why I'm using IE at work, sorry... maybe its cos I'm too lazy to move all my bookmarks. |

I bet if someone built a front end to Firefox that looked identical to IE, you might get even more people moving over. Can't see it being difficult to do. I've put Firefox on a number of people's machines explaining why they should use it and they do now. They're happy enough with it. The only reason the majority of people use IE is because it's pre-installed and they don't know about the alternatives. What the EU was thinking when they hammered Microsoft for bundling windows media player with Windows. Who cares about media player? They should have bollocked them for IE and forced that out of Windows. |

I don't have a problem with IE so long as MS takes a more active role in supporting standards, which they are supposedly doing with IE7. Now, if they wait another 5 years to update the engine, then... I don't really care if they use proprietary technologies, either. Just so long as they support open standards as well. That should be priority #1. Ideally, it'd be nice to see a single rendering engine across multiple browsers, but that's not likely anytime soon. |
