how to make htaccess files un-hidden on macs ??

does anyone know how to make htaccess files un-hidden on macs - we have used them extensively on a site that is hosted on a mac, and it's a right royal pain in the arse having to search for them and edit them through the search interface...

any ideas?

I have problems seeing the htaccess files on my servers through fetch, any ideas?

Just to expand the topic a bit further...

Just had a reminder look at Fetch and you'd think that the 'Omit file names beginning with a period' pref would toggle their visibility, but it seems not.
Fwiw, Transmit has no problems showing them (and offers the same kind of integration with external editors as Fetch).

Re: local .htaccess on OS X.
Again, I would have expected to see htaccess mentioned in the .hidden file*, but it's not there, so there must be another instruction that OS X following.
(* by-line column)

Fwiw, overkill, but…

I can't offer any direct advice about singling out htaccess files for visibility, but I'd imagine some bright spark has produced a solution for what must be a problem for anyone running an OS X server.
Rooting around via google may well turn up the goods.

I haven't found anything so far, but as I imagine it must be a fairly common annoyance, I'll post up any solutions I come accross..

Yup, that's what I thought too Bill. Ah well, there's no accounting for common sense or the lack of it.

Time I gave Transmit a try. Thanks.

just had a look at transmit looks nice- only problem is that we can't have FTP access to the mac - we can only bring the files / changes in on a CD or usb key or something - which is a whole pain in itself..
