css validation for scroll bars
ok, so its nice to change the colour of the scroll bar to match the style of the site but the w3c css validator is telling me to get f@#ked - so, any ideas? anywhere else i can stick the code except for within the BODY {} in my .css? www.flark.co.uk/friar/ validation errors: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flark.co.uk%2Ffriar %2Fcss%2Ffriar1.css&warning=1&profile=css2 cheers chaps! |

I wouldn't bother to be honest. Scrollbars are not intended to be a visual part of any site and anyone using anything apart from Windows 98/2000 won't see the difference...... Andrew Parker

its also nice to see monkeys juggling lemons. innit. but that don't answer the question either. <however>iframes also now works with mozilla and netscape - interesting. still massively inacessible and (i'm guessing) a bitch for printers. i'll run it fully through my test bed tomorrow and maybe share the results.</however> anyway, bo!!ox, you've got me at it now. gabbing on about something other than the point at hand. i hate people like you. just tell me the answer (if you know) and we can all get on doing something else whilst we wait to die... |

The scroll bar properties are Microsoft extensions to the CSS specification and so no, they won't validate. I think they should just degrade nicely but who knows what the future holds...apart from the fact that you're gonna die, after a long wait hopefully That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

832 cheers. they do degrade properly - they don't affect the display at all - its just that i'd like to include it for ie 5.5+ users (b'cos its there and looks nice for like, 75% of visitors to the site). more importantly i want the css to validate. might have to leave it out. will let you know what i find out if nothing comes up here. ...waiting... |

[quote:7ac9ad096d="oli"]its nice to change them if you use iframes so you can tie them in with your site but then again only ie users can see iframes![/quote:7ac9ad096d] That's twice I've seen statements to that effect on webdes/dev boards in the past two days. Iframes has been part of the W3C spec for HTML since [u:7ac9ad096d]1999[/u:7ac9ad096d]. (4.01) I dunno where people get these ideas about it not being valid or only being supported by IE. It's even more surprising given that the people making the claim have demonstrated many, many other times that they know their onions. |
