Anybody know if this can be done? Both the shell and the javascript would be local... I know this would be a major major security violation if not.

The reason I ask... I am developing a mac widget that needs to get some of its data from a shell. I have not had much luck searching this.

You use some mac development model to make system calls, not javascript.

You can use the exec(); command in PHP, me thinks.

I don't think you can use PHP in Mac widgets can you? I'm pretty sure there is a solid way of interfacing with the system that doesn't require PHP.

Actually I gave a shit :-p. That's pretty interesting, so basically it is javascript... but it isn't. Basically Dashboard interprets that javascript call and handles it accordingly.
