htaccess:change the directory name

hi

google has indexed pages like mysite.com/old/sth, mysite.com/old/dog etc
and i want to make a redirect to mysite.com/new/sth, mysite.com/new/dog etc

i know i have to use mod-rewrite, but don't know what to write and where to put htaccess file

so i would be glad if someone helped me

google .htaccess mod rewrite. There are hundreds of pages and tutorials out there that explain it. It looks difficult at first, but if you find a good tutorial, it becomes a lot easier.

301 redirects will do it in a htaccess file ..
