Custom Program?

Hi. I'm just not sure where to start...

Currently I maintain a parent/teacher resource site that has a bunch of children's activities but I'd like to change the format so that it is set up like "AllRecipes" where people can search a database by categories/keywords and rate activities with comments.

Do I need to get a custom program written? I have some experience with php and mysql but figure that this kind of project is beyond my capabilities.

Any tips on where to begin?

Thanks!

maybe you might find an answer in utilizing an existing cms, and making your custom modifications to fit your needs.

look up some popular cms systems, for example: for php, wordpress, joomla, mambo, phpnuke, etc.

there are lots, i hope this helps you find a starting point. happy googling.

help with it?

Thanks for the point in the right direction. I've checked into Joomla and am testing it out now.

Just wondering if there is a good source/company to use that could help me configure it for my needs. I'm pretty busy, so I don't have the time right now to learn it. And I'd like to get something up quickly since traffic has been steadily increasing to the existing site I have. I might be interested in paying someone to set it up for me.

Any idea how I should go about finding someone? Any idea how much they would ask for payment?

Thanks!
