Link tracking/redirection with "303 See Other"

(Edit: Shoot... I should've put a question mark at the end of the title.)

Recently it's come to my attention that the Perl script that my company has been using to track link clicks for clients uses a "meta refresh" to redirect the viewer to the client's website.

The problem with this method is that, as far as I understand it, it "destroys" the referrer information. This is a real problem when our client is also tracking referrals from our site and we tell them that we've sent 100 people their way, but they only see 5.

So, I'm in the process of writing up a new script (in PHP) using one of the 3xx redirect codes.

I think "303 See Other" is my best option here. Maybe I'm being a little too literal, but the 301 and 302 redirects seem to imply some kind of "ownership" of the destination, which is not the case here (not to mention that "302 Moved Temporarily" is just wrong for this situation).

So, is 303 the way to go? Is there something I'm missing and need to be aware of before I completely settle on 303 redirects? Is there a better option?

Thanks in advance.
