making a Photoshop "Eyedropper tool" in JS?

Guys,

I have an idea to have a vector image where the user clicks on an area of a page, and the hexadecimal colour is returned using JS.

Is this possible?

Theres a mootools implementation of this I was looking at the other day. Lemme dig out the link if I can find it.

I'm pretty sure you could do this in flash without any problems, in HTML different kettle of fish.
