Situation: a friend has just bought a cottage, needing website designed to promote and lease various weeks throughout the year. My Problem: how to develop a way for potential customers to check availability(calendar), book a particular week, pay for it(Pay Pal...), and have that week then show unavailable on the calendar....then an e-mail to be sent to my friend(the owner of the cottage) confirming the booking. Cheers |

Might be stating the obvious but have to checked out Hotscripts.com for any prebuilt scripts you could modify to suit your needs? What programming languages do you know/want to use? PHP, ASP? You're not gonna get any easy answers here apart from go buy a book. Might be worth going to the SitePoint forums and asking there. Saying that, I'm sure someone on this forum (andrewparker maybe?) built something similar a while back, he could maybe offer some advice. Hope this helps a little. That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

Great! I suggest for starters, you use the ASP ( Active Server Pages ) and Microsoft Access combination. Its really easy; just get a web host with ASP/ACCESS support and upload your database. After uploading, you've got to set a connection string. Just call tech support for that ; they should be able to help you. After connecting, you just press the '+' sign to add a database under the first tab Then u just hav 2 look thru the other tabs and u should be able to click the '+' sign, and add the server behaviors you need. Its quite easy and weaver's help should be able to provide ample info on how to set up your very first database site. good luck! |
