I do website designing and coding and am looking to expand,

i was wondering-where would be a good place to start? are there any cheap/free softwares i could start on?-where would be a good place to learn from?

I brought two big PHP and MySQL books, but after a couple hundred pages, I read one tutorial online and it helped more then all of that, I am sure if I read it all it would help heaps but I think tutorials are a good place to start. In which case;
