php, coldfusion, asp blah blah blah

ok so i want to move into this.... but how do i decide which one to begin with or rather focus on? ive been reading up a bit on it and looking at tuts and stuff and trying to get my head around all of them, but its a bit overwhelming. so far ive seen that php is kinda the most popular and more easily adapted?

so.....

who what when where why?

cheers
pamela

what do you consider the best app for it (please dont say notepad)?

well, notepad or similar text editor is best, dreamweaver mx will do it in as well, been using for a while and not touched the php stuff in it yet but I guess its the same as html ; will do the job but wont be the best optimised code etc. Good luck.

If your on a Mac BBedit is the way to go for all your coding...

http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/index.shtml

Maybe a bit pricey but worth it. They did a Lite version up until recently but have replaced it with a 25x opening demo... which is both better and not so good depending how you look at it.

But then again by your notepad comment I'd be guessing your on a PC anyways

ColdFusion is a real RAD. You spend less time coding then PHP. Also it natively talks to Java and Flash.
