Need to assess the current server date and time and return Hour (24hr) and Day.

Can anyone help, save me poring over the books. Me and dates never got on.

time() should return the current date/time as a Unix timestamp

Use date() or strftime() to format it.

Thanks Luke, could never make head nor tail of the PHP website, need a translator, have a good book though. Finally the mists have cleared..
