ive heard of a few people moving away from mt due to constant problems and lack of updates.

I just hear more and more people praising MT and using it as a CMS as sorts too. See:

The only problems I've had have come from my host upgrading the stuff on the server without me realising.

I'm running Version 2.63 and I didn't have any problems installing it. You should really head over to MT's support fourm for support tho. the people there are friendly and VERY helpful.
