Alternative to canvas?
I recently went to a gallery and a lot of stuff was printed on to canvas, but also printed on to white board type art. Can anyone advise as to what this is called and where the best place to get this printed in the UK? I am hoping this is a cheaper alternative to printing on canvas as I am a newbie digital artist, any advise greatly appreciated... |

While I'm a complete novice in the realm of digital printing, but I recently got my BFA (Bachelor of the Fine Arts) degree and, therefore, I do have some experience in printmaking - the "analog" way. I'm not sure what you mean by "white board type art," but the closest surface I can think of is illustration board - varieties may also be called museum board or matte board. Matte board (for "matting" pictures, of course) tends to be lower quality than illustration board, which can get mighty pricey. For instance, I preferred Bainbridge illustration boards, which - after checking Utrecht Art Supplies, usually ranges from $75-$100 per 25-50 sheets. There's two primary types of illustration board - hot press and cold press. I can't recall the difference, but I think it has something to do with tooth or absobency. And I'm not too sure how suited illustration board is to digital printing, but I imagine it works fine. You could also look into heavy types of paper - or at graphic design supplies. Hope that was some help. |
