i usually design business cards at 8.8cm x 5.5cm there is a website with the standard sizes on i'll have a look

answer = ask where ever it is your getting them printed, in my experience they're all different and don't always want the files provided in the same way either. Plus the good places may even give you options...

and if your printing them yourself... that ruler was a good option
