Price Estimation

I am thinking about putting together a magazine/promo brochure.

Can anyone give me any pointers of what I need to think about.

It will be fairly short run to start, 5000 copies of 40 odd pages, glossy colour. What estimate of cost finished and boxed to go.

Would I be okay putting it together in PDF for printer?

What sort of cost if I want to pay for design and layout production?

I have no clue, rough figures will do?

Ask all that of two or three local printers.

We don't even know what country you live in so how can we help?

I'm in England. I only want a rough idea, some of you guys must be doing this stuff every day. 25p, 50p each, a pound? For a back of a fag packet business plan.

e-mail the spec to some printers, some give you a price within an hour, why bother with a rough guess?

edit: Scratch my rough guess (of 18k) as it was based on fuck all and you may take it as close enough for a business plan when it's not close enough for anything.

I'll do it for 17. Think my lexmark inkjet can handle that run. Max A4 though.

I'd say around 6 k for printing a 40pp A4

you can get a rough idea as some printers websites have instant quotation calculators, But we recently printed a short run of some 30odd pp and it was around 5k i think.

Thanks.

Online calculators, that's a good idea. I will have a look.

As it was only a business idea for the moment I did not want to waste a printers time putting a quote together for business that does not exist.
