Help! Doing design work for a FTSE100 Index company...

Hi, Im new to this forum, so hi everyone. I'm a designer who has just been asked to design some indoor prints for a very large UK (FTSE 100 index) company here in the UK. I'm just a freelancer who chanced upon the work (luckily).

This UK company wants me to handle the printing of the work (I don't want to say who for privacy reasons). Thats all well and good, but the printing cost is £2000. They will be wanting a VAT receipt for it, but I'm not VAT registered, just self imployed (registerd) as I dont earn big money.

Does anyone know if there is any way this company can pay me the money for the printing, and this company STILL be able to claim their VAT back? Can I just pass on my receipt from the printers to them? I dont want to ask the company this (yet) and look unprofessional and loose to job.

I'm a bit out of my depth here. I appologise if this is in the wrong furum to ask - having no luck searching tax sites. I'm just hoping a designer with a similar experience reads this post.

Thanks again, Andy

as far as i know. the only way they can claim the VAT is if the printers invoice them directly.

you don’t have to earn lots to be VAT registered, you can do a “Voluntary VAT Registration” which means you don’t have to earn £60k a year threshold. You can do this online and be registered in 2-3 weeks.

You might be missing out on print mark-up costs otherwise (30 to 40% of the print cost to YOU).

Yeah just ask the printers to make the invoice out to the company and send to you, job done!

Get the printers to invoice them, and charge a separate print management fee for your time.
