What to charge?
Hopefully you will be able to offer some sensible advice to a web designer as part of a job has been asked to do some print work. I have done my letterheads and business cards before but that is the extent of my print work. I have a job lined up hopefully with a single client for two websites. In addition, I have been asked to do some Business Cards, Letterheads, Comp Slips, Continuation Pater & blank Power Point slides for both businesses. The logo's will be designed as part of the web work. Has anyone any advice for quoting them for this? What is the market value - Top end through to bottom end for the print work? This is nothing off the wall, just standard stuff. They will get it printed themselves. Any tips on working out how long it might take me? I consider myself pretty conversant with Photoshop / Illustrator. Thanks. |

Where are you based? Set yourself a reasonable target based on them, the purpose of the work (whether it is reusable or a one off print), how long it'll take you and what resources you need. Asking between £5-50 an hour are all reasonable, it just depends on how you want to sell yourself. They will more than likely negotiate, don't undersell yourself if you've got talent. Only you know how long it'll take you, get a project plan together and work out how long you're going to take on each individual output. Keep communications active during your work time and find out exactly how they're getting it printed for the best results. |

Btw.... I ask.. I have a company that wants some flyers from me.. but they will contact me from time to time to use the same flyer but with other info.. (another day or time) How should I charge this? Should I charge for the first flyer and the same for the rest? Should I charge for every print they make? |
