Home printers for Canvas?

I am looking to purchase an A3 printer for my home studio. Recently I have being sending off artwork to be printed onto canvas and framing it myself. Can anyone advise as to whether I can print on to canvas on a normal a3 printer? Say perhaps the epson r1800? Or advice on a decent printer for this purpose?

Thanks in advance...

We print to canvas on our large format printer, the weight is about 415gsm so you would have to make sure it can take material of this weight and also check that the inks will be UV stable. We use pigmented inks which are more water-resistant whereas the average printer seems to use dye based inks - check this link for the differences - http://www.inkalike.com/ .

You'll also need to keep in mind that when printing to A3, if you're stretching the canvas around a frame that you'll be producing an under-a3-size image as part of the canvas will go around the edges.

If you're reselling the prints, it may be best for you to check the net for an A2 printer (or look for a second hand one) so you can do larger (or at least longer) prints.

We've got a Canon W8200 which is a big 44" bugger but also have a Canon W2200 which does A3+ and which produces absolutely fantastic quality prints on various materials including canvas. It doesn't have a straight paper path so rigid card is a no-go but it handles trimmed down 415gsm canvas ok.

HTH!

The 2400 is a fine printer no doubt but if you print a lot you will save money using the 4800.

If you want a 13" printer here is my recommendations:

If you print gloss get the 1800
If you print more luster/matte/etc than gloss get the 2400
If you print a good bit of B&W get the 2400

Whichever you choose, have faith in the choice and don't look back. Just start enjoying...
